The Department performs the following duties:

1- Performing chemical, geochemical and mineral analyses and tests for rocks, soil, minerals and water for GEOSURV projects purposes and for other public, mixed, private and cooperative sectors.

2- To perform microscopic examination of rocks, minerals and fossils.

3- Studying the engineering and physical characteristics of rocks and soil.

4- To perform laboratory and pioneer studies and tests to process mineral ores and industrial rocks and upgrade them for industrial use.
